Amar Singh

Turbans 4 Australia, Western Sydney

Amar’s ability to bring people together and make a difference in the community is highly commendable and indicates both a love of his fellow Australians and a deep faith in humanitarian values.” – Nominator

Representing an influential agent of change in his community, Amar is deeply committed to helping Australians in times of crisis. He founded Turbans 4 Australia in 2015, an organisation specialising in providing emergency goods to people in need.

Under his leadership, the organisation has expanded to 200 volunteers and supplied over 30,000 free (and culturally appropriate) meals annually throughout Western Sydney and regional NSW. He also set up a community pantry during the pandemic, which served over 500 families from CALD backgrounds to access food and care items. In addition, Amar has staged many events including the annual Unity Walks in Liverpool and Sikh cultural presentations at numerous multicultural festivals, including in Parramatta, Blacktown, and Strathfield.

However, the impact of Amar’s work is not only reflected in the incredible scope and output of Turbans 4 Australia. It can also be seen through his ongoing advocacy for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to volunteer, allowing them to build confidence and forge social networks.
